Periyar Tiger Trail

Day 01 :
At 08:00 hrs starts the trek from the departure point. The trekking routes are laid out through the lush evergreen forests of Periyar tiger reserve and most of these are tracks of wild animals or the patrolling routes of anti poaching squads. Normal walking time would be around 04 -05 hours to the first camping site, which is 08 - 10 kms from Thekkady. Enroute take rest on request and will provide snacks, tea/coffee. One may get a chance to encounter many indigenous birds and mammals like Nilgiri lagoons, Sambar deer, wild boar, Indian goat, Malabar giant squirrel, elephant, etc. Will reach the first campsite around 1630 hrs and vegetarian lunch may be prepared and served. Accommodation will be in tents pitched by your escorts.
The tents are with side openings for safety. The campsite normally is near to water source. Most are the camp sites are potential area of wildlife, excellent view of lake and surroundings blanketed with evergreen forests. After lunch an hour trek to grasslands to watch wildlife at their feeding ground. Back to camp site after a short walk. Dinner will be served at 2000 hrs. Overnight at the camp.
Day 02 :
After a bed tea/coffee, an early morning treks to watch wildlife at 0630
hrs. Breakfast will be served at the camp site around 0900 hrs. After the breakfast will start the trek at 1000 hrs to the second campsite, normal walking time is around 04 hours. Campsite inside a shola on the top of a mountain. A nice view of the entire lake and different habitat. Lunch will be served and take rest till 1600 hrs. After tea/snack section a 02-hour trek to watch wildlife. Evening watch the starlit night sky of the tropical rainforest, listen to the cacophony of myriads of crickets, frogs and nocturnal birds, watch the preparation of ethnic cuisine and have a sumptuous dinner under the million stars.
Day 03 :
After a simple breakfast at 0830 hrs, start the trekking back through the misty mountains and the orchestra of thousands of beetles and birds. Reach back to the point around 1100 hrs.
